About The Final Curtain Finishing Company

The Final Curtain Finishing Company was created because I wanted to stitch larger, more detailed needlepoint pieces, but the traditional finishing process made that feel intimidating.

After investing time into a needlepoint piece, the idea of sending it out with little communication, unclear timelines, and no visibility into the process held me back.

While I have a deep respect for the craftsmanship behind finishing, the structure of the experience itself made it difficult to fully commit to the kind of work I wanted to create.

Because of that, I began seeking out local, independent artisans to explore a different approach to finishing. In December of 2025, I was introduced to a team of artisans in the garment district of New York City who craft the costumes and props for Broadway, ballet and holiday shows across the city.

I began working with them on my own needlepoint finishing, and we developed a transparent and collaborative process together, that reflects the professionalism of how they already work in costuming and set design.

Taking on additional needlepoint finishing clients allows the team to stay working together between major production contracts. In the garment district and union environment, projects are tied to specific productions, often resulting in gaps between contracts. By incorporating finishing into their workflow, the team can remain together while continuing to build on their craft.

In partnership with these independent artisans, I have formed The Final Curtain Finishing Company, to offer this modern needlepoint finishing service to you.

About the Founder Makena Lopez

I lead design services and manage all client communication at The Final Curtain Finishing Company.

My professional background is in brand management and product development, with a focus on refining and repositioning established businesses. I have worked across retail, licensing, and home design, including projects connected to brands such as Martha Stewart and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. My work has centered on how products are developed, how brands are experienced by the customer, and where existing systems can be improved or reimagined.

That perspective is what led me to see an opportunity in needlepoint finishing. As the industry continues to grow, there is increasing demand for a finishing process that allows for greater customization, clearer communication, and a more hands-on experience.

I’m the co-founder of The Vintage Individual, a NYC-based vintage retail brand built around the belief that personal style can be expressive, accessible, and sustainable. Over the past 5 years, I’ve produced and operated 15+ NYC pop-ups, sourced and managed inventory through B2B vintage purchasing, and handled all business operations.

I am also deeply committed to working with independent makers and small businesses. Living in New York has given me the opportunity to collaborate directly with highly skilled artisans in the garment and textile industries, which became a foundational part of building this company.

I discovered needlepoint two years ago while looking for a way to unwind after work. What began as a hobby quickly became a meaningful creative outlet and a natural extension of my long-standing love of the arts, especially art museums, musical theater, and ballet.

I am proud to have founded The Final Curtain Finishing Company and look forward to working with each client to deliver a more modern needlepoint finishing experience.
